A device
designed for use with the Payne method to test the effectiveness
of a coating applied by dipping. The Elcometer 4310 consists of
a motor with a three-step pulley fitted on an adjustable tripod.
A cord suspends
the test piece on one side and its counterweight on the other.
It passes over a guide roller and winds onto one of the steps
of the drive pulley, raising the test piece vertically after it
has been dipped in the product.
The result
depends on the viscosity of the product, the surface condition
of the substrate and the speed at which the test piece is extracted.
